Day 01: Huaraz – Tunel (Punta Olimpica) – Mateo summit 5150 m / 16,896 ft
We leave Huaraz at 3 a.m. m. Driving to Punta Olimpica, we pass several smaller cities and towns, such as Marcara and Carhuaz. We started our walk before the tunnel, going up towards the Mateo mountain. Before reaching the glacier, we passed the moraine and then we started to climb with an inclination of 30 ° to 45 ° to reach the top. We enjoy magnificent views over many snow capped mountains and mountain lakes.
